A woman gains alot of weight in the first few weeks of pregnancy because the body is creating additional blood to help support the fetus. Most of this weight is water weight. The fatigue comes from hormonal changes and the extra energy that is going into creating a baby and the support system to grow it. Don't blame the fatigue on the weight. And don't push your wife to do anything she doesn't want to do. Walking, swimming, aerobics are all good if she feels up to it. And when she gets larger, don't do anything that puts her flat on her back. It puts too much pressure on important blood vessels.

The pregnancy is making her tired more than the weight, but she can walk, swim, jog, go to the gym (w/trainer), or use a dvd pregnancy pilates, yoga or arobics workout. She should not lose weight while pregnant rather she can try to get in a bit better shape.

As long as she's otherwise healthy and the doctor has ok'ed her, it's good for her to exercise. Water-exercises and swimming are easy on the body. Walking, too.
Stay away from contact-sports, skating, bicycling, running, and other activities that are too strenuous. Her center of gravity isn't the same as it used to be, so it might make her less balanced.

Check with her doctor but she should be able to cycle and walk and chiropractors advise a series of stretches. Her doctor might have some exercises as well to help with ease of the birth.

Swim, swim, swim! Can't recommend it enough.
It is easy [even if you just paddle, you don't need to be an olympic breaststroker], relaxing, soothing & works/tones many muscles. The baby [or at least mine] seems to enjoy it also!
It's wonderful to feel that weightlessness, especially if you are carrying on the large side.
:)
