IF for example Bin Laden, Bush, Blair or who ever, had choosen to react differently in the early days to the current situation, which they believe to be repeating history. What would you think the outcome could be?

Unfortunatly it's not just the USA, it applies to every decission we make every day of our lives and we all choose to react in accordance with our past (history) not our future, that what we want to be. We don't think before we react.

Oh, you're one of those people who doesn't bother resolving their own questions.
Will I get annoyed?
No, because I've learnt that some people are just rude, and have no manners.

Unfortunately the United States seems unable to learn from history Their political leaders seem to have the arrogant belief that no matter what happened before, strength and dollars will get it right this time. If America hadn't conned its population into believing that the Soviet Union was a major enemy and hadn't used its muscle to use the primitive and backward Afghani Muslims to help destroy it, we wouldn't have the problems we have today. On the other hand the level of arms sales would have dropped so maybe they have learned something, that you CAN fool all of the people all of the time.

Depends on the situation that arises. We were not repeating history when we first went into Afghanistan after Bin Laden. It was when we had him cornered in December of 2001 and when our military decided to pay Afghans to go after him that history began to repeat itself. Following this was the diversion of the beginning of the War in Iraq, which has just created an Afghanistan prior to 2001 all over again.

Strictly from observation, I disagree with you.
Or am I being cynical.
In the 20 years I have been aware of this phenomena, the eventual outcome has been almost exact.
It is the most depressing thing I can imagine.

from the Sting song, "History will teach us nothing".

Proof? - Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Darfur......
and I don't mean just war, but the path to it and attempts out of it.
