First of all, 16 is not- I repeat, not!- too old to start pointe. If you put your mind to it and are ready to work hard, you can do it. However, you must be really careful with pointe shoes. It is very easy to injure yourself. People don't start pointe without prior ballet experience because their body is not strong or flexible enough, particularly in the area of their feet and ankles, to safely and correctly go up en pointe. Technical ballet training in "flat" shoes is usually required at studios for a reason, the reason being to increase ankle and foot strength and flexibility among other things. You need to have the solid foundation of these things before you go en pointe so you can do it correctly and not seriously- maybe even permanently- injure yourself. If there is a teacher that is offering to put you straight en pointe without any prior experience, I highly- highly!- recommend you find a different teacher, because a teacher that puts you straight en pointe does not have your best interests in mind. If you work hard on your strength, ballet technique, and flexibility, it is really in your hands how long it takes before you are ready. Find a good teacher who cares about your well being, and they can help you know what to work on. I wish you the best of luck, but please, please keep yourself safe and don't start with pointe immediately!

You should buy them online if you can't find any stores.
