self assigned addresses are NOT good! you need to get one from a dhcp server or pre-define the address... dhcp is good, pre-defined is bad.

make sure the router does dhcp... for the pc over the wire, and the mac via the airport card.

99% of home routers do dhcp, if they are configured (the default) for it!

Sounds like the MAC has a static IP address and the PC is getting the same IP address from the DHCP server. Log into the management of the router and assign the static IP address using the mac (layer 2 address) of the MAC system. This way the DHCP server will only assign a IP address to the PC and there will be no conflict.

The self-assigned IP is your problem. I don't know anything about Macs, but you'll need to set its wireless connection to obtain an IP address automatically - right now its set to a static IP, which obviously isn't recognized by your router.

Connect your Mac by wire to your router, and then enter your router's configuration page. I am not that familiar with Macs, but your router should be able to see the Mac computer. If it does, then you have to configure your router to see the Mac wirelessly. Your router access page should have help files to assist.
Explore the routers web site (eg: www.dlink.com or www.linksys.com ect.)

Read careful User's guide of Router. It's a problem of protocols. It has to work if you work.
