Sure, Indonesia is a democratic nation. The only problem in the country is that there is a lot of corruption. It had one of the most corrupt governments in the world. Most of the SE Asian region are Democracies. Only Burma is ruled by a military Junta.

The ME? Well, I have seen some signs of Democracy in Bahrain. There were recent elections for choossing various senators. Anyway, I hope to see Democracy in the ME region in time, and I wish them all the luck.

Democracy only comes from the people, with the right outside support. It cannot be enforced by a gun, like what Bush is trying to do in Iraq.

Even if there may be some scope for improvement Indonisian model is more or less an ideal demoicratic model for Southeast Asia and the Middle East. It is noteworthy that despite its being a predominantly Muslimk nation it has scruplously avoided being communal. Very few would know that every year an amendment to the Constitution to bring it on a par with Sharia laws is moved and as regularly it is thrown out.TheHindu cultural influences in Bali and even in the shadow plays all over has not been disturbed despite their avoid Hindu congents. In the Indo-Pak conflicts also, after Suekarno, Indonesia has kept a scrulously corret neutral attitude. The election are by and large fair and regressive forces have been sidelined democratically.
All this would go a long way in improving the present almost chaotic conditions in some Southeast Asian and Middle East countries(including Pakistan and Bangladesh)

A. Democracy doesn't exist. It's an ideology that can not be achieved. Country who call themselves democratic states what they wish to be, a nation where everyone has an equal say in the government. Indonesia is better served as a Republic, They have so many different community in shich must be represented. The problem with Indonesia is that Java has too much power and now is alienating all the other Indonesian. This is in part that according to democracry, majority rule. The problem is there is no respect for minority rights. There is a rebellion in Sumatra, New Guinea, and Timor because they feel under represented. There is riots in Borneo as well, I believe the Christian Dayak is protesting against Muslims are moving in their territory with out there consent. Also remember that some muslims went on a murdering and raping spree against the Chinese-Indonesians. Frankly, "Democracy" doesn't work unless you have a homogenous population.
