Hitler wanted World domination. He killed 6 million Jews and 6 million non-Jews. He was a brilliant man but his problem was that he was insane. He didn't draw any conclusions from World History which shows that when ever an attempt is made to take over the World, it always ends in failure. Today's religious extremists need a few history lessons.

The Nazi government strived for a pure, Aryan Germany--a utopia covering Europe (and quite possibly the world). In order to do so, "impurities" such as Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, etc. were targeted for extermination.
It is true that anti-Semitism flourished in Europe (and other areas of the world), a fact that made the mass murder of millions of Jews more tolerable or acceptable in the eyes of some. However, Jews were not the only targets of Nazi atrocities. Also, keep in mind that Hitler does not deserve all the blame--after all, the mass murderers of the Holocaust still had free will (and it wasn't only SS and other Nazis who performed mass murders).
He was sadistic (as are many others who ascribe to hate, prejudice, and intolerance). He was a criminal against humanity. He catalyzed an ideological war to exterminate the "impurities" of a utopian Germany. All three options are correct.

Of course he was a sadist and criminal. I even think these words are still very weak and I don't have words to say what he was. Yes, there was a "purpose" for the Holocaust in his evil and insane ideology. He thought he would "cleanse the earth from the Jewish poison". He spoke like that. Yes, Jews were hated then in Europe by many people. That was because people couldn't bear a minority being different in some way and because they wanted a scapegoat.

Many of the answers you have received are not only insulting but lean towards insanity as well. I wonder about those people that would agree with killing I personally think you should flag them.
However the answers you seek are at the site of www.history.com. Hitler was a short dwarfed man probably born from incest in his bloodline as many Austrians were back then with all the inbreeding in Europe at the time of the Monarchs it is no wonder they found so many to follow. Hitler not only murdered people he enjoyed watching it on film, and that is the only sex he could have because he was imputent and a cripple himself with palsy. His doctors invented crystal methodrine for him and all his good little Nazis took it as well. They thought it strengthened them back then. Ha ha it put holes in their already insane brains. They were so rigged and that is why they were so stiff and look at their march the goose step? That is not natural, no one walks like that? Also he had his cousin (yes blood cousin) as his so called girlfriend. She was a toy for him to watch in sexual activity in the bunker. He could not perform unless he was posing in front of the camera. He made loads of films and watched himself over and over again. Most of his buddies were homosexuals and there is no question about Hess and Goebels, Gehring, and the rest. Look at the women around them they were all Butch? They were all very insane and perverse. Like the ones in the French Revolution eating and watching the heads roll on the ground after the guillotine? Obviously there was a drastic problem in Austria, Germany, and France etc., that produced these insane criminals. Their bloodline was ridden with genetic mental defects and they were jealous, and tyrannical murderers. I mean really, Hitler an artist? He was the laughing stock at his showing that is why he hated people so much. All he ever did was hang paper and fight a little in WW1, where a Jewish man who saved his life while his stumpy little body got shot in a Fox hole. That same man helped him reach his goals with art and financed him but he was not good at it. So he got mad at his friend and had him killed. Hitler was such a coward he could not kill anyone himself he was a coward in the WW1 as well.

I think he did it for a purpouse, he thought that the jews was taking the germans work, which as a matter of fact was certainly truth back in those days, he was an idealistic, a politician executing what he thought was the best for his country, i wouldn't see him as a sadist, nor a criminal, he wasn't the person in charge of killing the jews, and he did something wrong that he thought was the way to get rid of that innocent people, i am definitly not trying to justify his actions, he was a very VERY EVIL person, he was also a maniac, the real question is who´s craziest, ''the crazy person, or the peple that follows this person??'', germany was very desperate back in those days, their economy was very bad.... u should read ''my struggle'' by Adolf Hitler, but u should also read the books about the concentration fields. It's very interesting to know about it both sides.....

Just look at the answers here the Jews are hated today. I would not call him either he was misinformed and a war criminal. What do you call the Northerners of the United States who did the same thing to their own people? (I mean other then what we did to the native Americans) take a look at Johnson s Island (northern Ohio); Camp Douglas (Chicago); and Elmira (New York).
The official U.S. position on the treatment of Confederate prisoners of war during The War for Southern Independence would shock many modern Americans. The data, facts and statistics have been thoroughly eliminated from American history books. One must research the original documents to discover the horrible truth.
During the Civil War (1861-1865), the U.S. House of Representatives passed the following resolution: "Rebel prisoners in our hands are to be subjected to a treatment finding its parallels only in the conduct of savage tribes and resulting in the death of multitudes by the slow but designed process of starvation and by mortal diseases occasioned by insufficient and unhealthy food and wanton exposure of their persons."
One Yankee prison commander boasted that he had killed more Confederate soldiers than any Union officer on the front battle lines.
The story of Confederate prison camps, especially Andersonville, has been misrepresented. There was no deliberate attempt to mistreat northern POWs. The South asked the North to send doctors and medicine, and they tried to exchange the prisoners.
The North refused and finally the Confederacy offered the North cotton and gold as payment to take them without exchange. Again, the North refused to do so. They knew the Confederate States of America would be honor bound to try to feed and house the Union POWs and to do so would hamper the Confederate war effort.
God Bless You and Our Southern People.

He was both a sadist and a criminal, in my view. So what if the Jewish people were not very liked at that time? It shouldn't justify or validate his actions - murder is murder.

I think he was an evil genius. He had a talent for getting people to follow him, no matter where he led. He did not only kill Jews. He didn't really like anyone, except his personal physician. Have you seen the documentary
"High Hitler"?
