Interleague play. Play between the American and National leagues. Most of the season in intraleague play, play within one league.
I still don't like it - I like the leagues to be separate, like hostile nations who meet only for the All Star game and the Series.
But I guess like everything else in baseball these days, interleague play generates money for MLB. Just like that damn DH...

As other people have mentioned it is in fact "Interleague" play. Here in the U.S. we also have something called an "Interstate" which could be compared as similar. An Interstate takes a vehicle from one state to another. An Interleague game faces one team from one Leaugue against another team from another league.

well that wouldn't make much sense if it was called inner league play. but since it's called inter league play (as in between leagues) it does make sense

It's "inTer-league", not "inNer-league." Inter- is a prefix that means "between" - hence, "between league play".
