You do not get rid of a friend. If something in his nature is flawed---you help him alter or address that issue. you could help him become more sensible like yourself---gradually and gently with alot of love and support.
If the person is not your friend then changing his idiotic nature need not be your busness. Just distance yourself, have different activity, friends, routines that preclude him. Be unavailable and unresponsive.
If you have befriended him then you must disengage gradually and sensitively. Do not use him when you have nothing better to do or no one to hang out with. After awhile he will seek company elswhere and you need not be bothered by this idiotic person.

Either tell them up front or play coy and never be available. When they call tell them you are busy. Always keep an eye on your caller id and dont answer if its them. Eventually they will take the hint or find a new friend.

well if you dont want to be friends with him and he cant take a hint then keep ditching him if he really is an idiot he wount understand and your doing him/her a favor by making them think they have friends and if hes not that dumb then he'll get the hint

If you call the person your friend, he/she can not be idiotic. But anyways, if you think the person is idiotic then tell her/him to mend her/his ways or you'll leave him/her

as u mentioned idiotic friend... i understood that may be idiot..but ur friend. u still hav space in ur heart. bring to ur level...but donot go to his/her level of maturity.
If troubling u...make it open to that particular person only that u r bein gtroubled by them for their silly beheaviour.
