I have played some really bad games, hey... I used to own a xbox! But wow.. If you get excited playing chess, you don't get none at night. Checkmate! The only thing chess nerds need to check is their sexlife. Because it's probably turning stale....mate!

chess is an intriguing game...you need different strategies for different players, you need to plan 3 or 4 movies ahead, and change your strategy on a whim. It requires patience, intelligence, creativity and It's just a very challenging game. A grandmaster chess player (one who is recognized as one of the best in the Chess world) just lost to a computer, but still won 500,000 dollars. Now that's not petty change.
And what does ones sex life have to do with chess? You are a complete moron...LOL

Because checkers is boring and they already mastered all those crap Video games, and the wife is Raving B**** so Ya learn to play chess, i guess. Clever... no really I think so.
Chess is a game of strategy. You have to figure out what your opponent is doing, figure out what you want to do, and link both of those together in a strategy to take one piece and basically set it up to be removed from the board. All the while, your opponent is doing the same thing and adapting his moves to counter yours.
My guess is that if you did not like chess, either you do not like most strategy games, many people don't, you played with people who did not understand the game, which makes for two people moving pieces on a bored sporadically and not really thinking anything through, or you lack the patience to wait for your opponent to make a move.

That's an unfortunate generalization. I'm married about to have a child (guess where that is going) yet I enjoy chess.

Sounds like somebody is bad at chess! I think its appeal is that it is an easy game to play, but a hard game to play well which is a challenge that brainy people seem to like..... knowing that you are good at a game that is hard to master makes you smart. Maybe they need that positive reinforcement? I, for the record, am not good at chess.

this is a fascinating game of strategy and skill. before She died my wife and I kept a chess game going on a table. I worked nights and She worked days. every morning before She went to work She made a move and every night when I came home I made a move. very interesting way to play a game
