I'm looking to start up a non-profit. As a college student, I don't have a whole heck of a lot of money. I do on the other hand have a plan, a work in progress business model and a handful of backers. I'm looking to set up a website which will sell merchandise, inform about our mission and create some buzz. So I guess the questions are; What kinds of fees am I looking at (ballpark or links?) Is it possible to pay someone a reasonable price to get my website up and running? Time isn't a huge issue (3 more years until I graduate and have to get a real job) but I would like to start making a difference as soon as possible. (Thank you all so much, in advance and I'm sorry if I am braking etiquett here, I'm very new to Y! Answers)

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Starting and Running a Non-Profit Made Easy by Entrepreneur Press, David H. Bangs
* Starting and Running a Nonprofit Organization by Joan M. Hummel
* The Nonprofit Handbook: Everything You Need to Know to Start and Run Your Nonprofit Organization by Gary M. Grobman
* Starting & Building A Nonprofit: A Practical Guide by Peri Pakroo

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Good goals, hope you become successful! Hosting fees are low, around $10 - $30 per month. A lot of free/open source software out there, so in general, you can create a site easily.

Here are a few good startup resources sites which I liked, hope they helps somewhat:

first thing is you say you have backers,,, do you have shares?.. you must also be listed with i.r.s. for a tax federal tax number and a state tax number. it sounds as what you are talking about is not non profit,,, there is avery strict guidline on this..
start a church they all are non profit , according to them .... and look at their bank accounts.....

if you have a good idea , if you can start it alone,

rule of thumb never invest more than you can afford to loose....

good luck
