Are they worth the time & effort? I want to get into either computers or security, but don't really have the transportation for a non online college. anyone who's attended an online college would be helpful.

I would not recommend it unless it was a last resort, and it was free. Online degrees started so people could take advantage of the system. For example, Ford would pay employees $20k per year more if you had an MBA. It takes a quarter of the time at the Univ. of Phoenix, so the employees would go there. It did not help their educational, it only helped make them more money. This is the same with teachers that get paid more based on how many college credits they have, so they take these cheap online courses. Try to get your act together, get transportation, and do what you have to do to get to a traditional college, or study this on your own, but don't throw you money away on a online college.

Some of them are. The key thing to look for is their accreditation seal...then check to see if the people they are accredited by are recognized by the US Department of Education. If they are, then that school is legit. If not, stay away. The credits earned at a non-accredited school will not, most lokely, be able to be tranferred into a regular college
