The smoke itself isn't that bad but the shortage of oxygen is.
Underweight, underdeveloped babies is what you'll get.

Not many smoke when they're pregnant. Even if they're gonna adopt a child, they don't smoke. Its really bad for the baby because they is a chord connected between the mother and the child. Everything the mother eats, drinks, breathes, and such, go to the baby. If the mother smokes, then it would consider that the baby is smoking.

You geting a lot of good answers to your question.
Not a lot of pregnant mothers smoke, all the mom's I know stop smoking before getting pregnant or as soon as thy found out.
I quit as soon as I found out, and I wouldn't even go around any one that was smoking.
At this time smoking is becoming unacceptable so a lot of people are quiting any way.
If you love your unborn baby ,you won't smoke.
You can do it.

Smoking can cause birth defects and health problems in babies. If any women gets pregnant she should be adult enough to quit smoking and do what she can to make sure no one smokes around her. The baby cannot defend itself, it is the mothers job to make sure that the child is in no way adversely affected by anything she does.

I'm a smoker and when I found out I was pregnant, I immediately quit! Smoking can cause low birth rate, asmtha, labor complications as well as birth defects! Please don't harm your child like that. Remember this: Everytime you inhale your cigerette, your baby's heart beat nearly stops! I saw a sonogram of a woman who smokes during her pregnancy and the baby truly suffers. If you smoke, quit now!!! This is your baby's life and why should they suffer? You child deserves to be healthy and thriving, not deformed and gasping for air. Please think about this if you're smoking!

I read this online... You can quit!! I am sure alot of mommys get pregnant and have to kick the habit. I did! And I am totally sure you can to!
"You may already know how hard it is to try to quit: the cravings, the irritability, the powerful urge to have "just one more" cigarette. And now that you're pregnant, you know that quitting has never been more important. Even if you've failed at kicking the habit in the past, you can do it this time. About 40 percent of all pregnant smokers manage to quit."

You are more likely to lose your unborn baby (miscarry) if you smoke during pregnancy.
A smoker's baby is more likely to:
be stressed during labour, leading to a complicated birth
have a low birth weight, making health problems more likely
die at, or shortly after, birth
die of cot death, or SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome)
have coughs, colds and other breathing problems
get ear infections
develop asthma.
I have known women that have smoked in pregnancy, and personally I think it is a terrible thing to do.
I think a pregnant mother should get help so they can quit.

Smoking causes cancer - just think about it.......
One thing which really irks me is to see a mother and/or father smoking in a car (windows rolled up) and innocent children in the back seat. Those poor innocent children did not ask to breathe the smoke and die of lung cancer. The parent(s) should automatically loose their children and never be allowed to have any more.

I dont think a lot, but abvoiusly some do. It IS NOT good, but I know that babies can be fine sometimes. It just depends, and why people want to play games with thier babys health is beyond me. It can can cause low birth weight, immune problems, lots of complications. If you are too selfish to stop smoking for 9 months, then you are probably too selfish to have a baby. My sis smoked cigarettes & pot all thru her pregnancy...and my nephew has a cleft lip & pallate. Dont chance it, and if you know somone who does, please encourage them to stop.

well i didn't but i know someone who did. her daughter cannot cry nearly as loud as mine can, and even though that might seem like a good thing she could have lung problems. on top of that her girl is only 3 weeks younger than mine is but when you put the two next to each other it seems like 3 months because she is not growing well at all. however after she had the baby she really regretted it and now thinks of her daughter's well being rather than her own, and that's all that matters.
