when it comes to self interest, every person tends towards his self. how best the society would be if it is otherway round. that is, when every one is away from his self interest and look after the interest of others arround.

My theory is that people are selfish because of a number of things. When they are little, their parents made everything about the child and maybe even spoiled them. When the child grows up, they are selfish because their parents never taught them the importance of not always getting their way.

furthermore if you really are getting a divorce and you have children the most important thing to think about for you and your soon to be ex is the children and not yourselves taking care of your children is and making sure you and their other parent set a good example for them is FAR more important

A number of people were not born selfish, they have to learn to become selfish, in order to fit in with a system that is in favour of selfish attitudes if they don't want to be seen as a fool.

Wouldn't you expect the concept of 'self interest' to be--I don't know--focused on one's self??? If you were focusing on someone else, then it wouldn't be self interest, now would it?

I have found that a person has to look out for herself or himself. What you said is an ideal, but it will never happen.

If you cant look out for yourself how will you be able to look out for others. Its like if your not happy w/yourself how can help someone else be happy. To be effective you need to be following your own example.
