It helps if you keep them painted. I used to bite my nails until they bled too, but I stopped doing that by using a toothpick to scratch underneath the nail. It simulates the sensation of biting without the damage.

Were just alike, i always bite my nails!
This has to be one of the hardest habits to break, but it can be done. Here are just a few ways to make it easier.
1. Decide that you are going to stop. Pick a day and say that's it. No more nibbling. Now here are a few little ways to help.

2. There are some bitter tasting liquids that can painted onto the nails. I don't know anyone who actually liked the taste, so this is going to slow you down and give your nails a little time to start growing.

3. The minute you wash your hands, re-apply the liquid mentioned above. This will also focus attention on your hands and the nails which should be visible by now.

4. Keep an emery board in every room and one in your backpack or purse. The minute you notice a snag, use the emery board and not your teeth.

5. Buy a few bottles of pretty polish and some hand cream. You are going to keep your nails polished and your hands soft. In a weeks time, you are going to notice a difference.

6. Once a biter, always a biter. I have stopped, but it only takes a snag for me to revert back to old habits. I have to follow these tips too.

7. You might have been looking for a magical way to stop biting your nails, but I'm afraid that there is no such thing. You simply have to put your mind to it and stop!

8. Will power is an amazing thing. If you want something badly enough, you can do it. If you want pretty nails, you are the only person who can stop it from happening.

This actually makes sense. If you are busy chewing gum, you are less likely to nibble.

There are all kinds of ways to help stop this habit here are a few (but by no means all) of them:

Put a decent-smelling but foul-tasting lotion or cuticle oil on your fingers every day, and whenever you feel like biting rub some more on. Hand sanitizer also works, but it's hard to find some that doesn't smell horrible.

Keep your nails filed short so that you can't bite them off. I know you want to grow them long, but one step at a time. Keep them short till you are broken of your habit.

You can buy nail polish that tastes gross, though I can't remember where to find it. It's very bitter, but you have to be careful about not getting it on your finger food or clothing.

If you think you bite your nails because of some oral fixation, fixate your mouth on something else like gum.

If you bite your nails out of nervousness, learn to recognize what makes you nervous enough to bite your nails and learn to recognize when you start to get that nervous, and practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing and calm visualization.

Wear fake nails. If you spend money on good fake nails you will be less likely to break them off. Problem is, they ruin your nails and you may never be able to grow them out naturally.

Simple, but something really gross on them or something that smells bad, that way when you feel like biting them you won't because it taste or smells bad! Also, most people bite there nails when they are nervous or scared so stop stressing yourself out (if that is the case).

I used to bite my nails until I painted them BLUE.
I didn't want to explain why I had "something"
blue on my teeth. It worked and that was 1985.
Also carry nail clippers on your keys to cut
your nails if they break while you are out and
before you start biting them just to fix the
broken nail problem.

put permanant marker on the very tips, very discreet. everytime you bite, it will taste terrible. another way is put fingernail-polish-remover on your nails every morning and other chances you get. the disgusting tasting effect will be even stronger!

also, have a code word with friends. whenever you bite your nails around buddies, have them say a word like, "chicken-biscut." eventully, they word will catcg on and it will be immediate for you to stop. it's also really fun. we did the same thing with my nail biting friend.

The best way to quit biting your nails, are... get your nails painted, you won't want to bite them or go get acrylics you won't wanna bite them because they cost... they both really work.

put your fingers in hot sauce and then rinse them with water and dry. when you arent thinking about it, and you bite your nails, your mouth will burn from the hot sauce and you will eventually stop!

Put the acrylic nails on. It is costly but it works.
