I have had the same isp for 6 years. I have noticed that from minute to minute, day to day(hour to hour).... the speed changes.I check at the task bar icons. My isp is through a major tellephone co. I have not tryed any others, msn, earthlink, aol, ect. I need feedback from people who have tryed diffrent ones from the same address, same computer, and if you have noticed consistently better speeds from any specific dial up providers. (I cannot get dsl.) ....Dont get me started! ( I can get fios fiber ) BUT NO DSL! I do not need it.I get lies and excuses.Enough. Please your feedback and experiences will be helpfull.

This isnt uncommon with dialup. Time of day, how many people are on your node, etc have a big influence on your internet speed especially on dialup! Consider the fact that there are probably twice as many users on your line than there were three years ago!

it all depends on the weather, how many people in your area are also using the internet, signal strength, and your computer space...check to see how much free space you have, and make sure you have it on 56k..in the modem area...you can also call the phone company (mine is Qwest) in the dial up troubleshooting dept. and ask them what your signal strength is...they'll tell you exactly what speed you're getting at the moment...i know dial up is wayyy slower, from my experience...i had dial up for a long time cause it's alot cheaper, but i finally gave in and got dsl and noticed a heckuva difference..even though you're not considering it...the pages come up instantly and i have absolutely no problems now..i even have it through my phone company..my problems with dial up were long waits for connectivity, long waits for the page to come up, etc...you may also want to make sure your cache is empty...click on the tools button, click internet options, click on delete files, delete history, and delete cookies...this may speed up your dial up...if you have an older computer, you may want to upgrade also...hope this helps you out :)
