Depends what you mean by heater.
Furnace, yes. It should be controlled by a thermostat and will only come on as needed.
Built-in wall heater (which is probably what you have in that area), yes, but keep it clear w/in a couple foot radius for safety reasons. They don't usually have a thermostat per se, but should have a control knob that you can set (roughly) like a thermostat. Just set it fairly low.
Space heater: really, best not to leave unattended or on while you're sleeping.
Best of all, just pile on the blankets.

I'd be more afraid of setting my house on fire. When you say heater do you mean those little space heaters? They are never safe to leave on unless someone is around to keep an eye on them. If you're in bed and covered with blankets you shouldn't feel cold anyway.

What kind of heater is it? A furnace? Than yes of course it is. You have to have heat. If its a space heater just be sure to keep everything away from it,(on all sides) and check the cord. If it gets hot at all do not use it at all. And never use a space heater with an extention cord.

Well, if the heater has a built-in thermostat like a central heating system, wall mount per-room, or portable "i-touch" Holmes heater, sure. Others, like a space heater, won't work, because it can't go unattended. Also, if you have one without a temperature gauge, it'll get too hot for comfort.

What I do is turn the heat up about 30 minutes before I go to bed, then turn it off. Now there two choices, use an electric blanket, it OK, but, the best is a good woman to keep me warm, if it going to be really cold I get 3 women, nothing like a 3 woman night. :-p

you need to have somebody examine the vent the place it exits the development. the rationalization the pilot is going out is maximum possibly wind blowing in to the vent from the exterior. if that's the case, an suitable conceal desires to be put in.
