He reckons that they are very rare. I offered to swap my video collection of the Simpson's recorded from the TV, for the frog, and he said yes. I've since found out under the Duty of Care to Wild and Endangered Animal Act 1979 that to be in posession of such a frog could land me in jail.
What do I do? I could get the Simpson's on DVD and just watch them instead?

I can answer this question easily for you as I deal with the issue several times a year but I am the one turning in the offenders because I don't like people disrespecting the law, that is why the creature or plant is endangered to begin with. Depending on the state you live in, this is what you do. Contact the local game warden. If you don't know who it is, then the ASPCA or the Humane Society can tell you or talk to police and they should be able to hook you up with the right individual. We get fined for being in posession of endangered species. He may have more frogs that you don't know about and they will check out the store and your name will not be mentioned. It depends on how long the frog has been in captivity as to whether it can be released back into the wild or not. You will not get into trouble for reporting where you got it, especially if you didn't know it was illegal to posess it. They will check his inventory and where he obtains items from.

Do not take the frog, report the guy for owning an endangered species and don't listen to people who say release a frog into a foreign habitat as that it may have adverse effects on that habitat.

I think you should report him to the local authorities so this animal can be cared for by a qualified organization. One day this animal may not be found anywhere on earth. It might be EXTINCT !!!! You can make a difference by doing the right thing.

To be honest I can't even imagine this is a legitimate question and if it is that you would have difficulty in making the right decision here.

Hope this helps.
