.
Mine does that from to to time, after an electrical outage in the house. Very irritating.

To fix the problem, UNplug the keyboard from the computer.
Restart the computer
Plug the keyboard back in
Restart the computer.
Then it will recognize it as "new" hardware, and allow it to work.

It would be a good idea, just to be safe, to go to the manufacturer site of your keyboard, and download the latest free driver.
a. To determine the manufacturer
look in your Device Manager section.
b. Go to START > RIGHT click MyComputer >
select PROPERTIES >
c. tab for HARDWARE > click button for Device Manager
d. In Device Manager, scroll down to your device, double click and get the name of the manufacturer.
e. Go online to the manufacturer site > find DRIVERS
f. Download the driver you need.

2. Go to your desktop, find the driver, double click and INSTALL the driver.

3. Restart your computer > it will "see" the new driver and may ask you if you want to use it
instead of the one you have...say YES.

Possible reasons:

Your have a bad keyboard. Have you tried a different one?

You blew out your PS/2 port (that's the round socket that your keyboard plugs into, assuming that you are not using a USB keyboard). PS/2 ports are not hot swappable, and it's possible to blow them out if you plug or unplug a keyboard or mouse while the computer is on.

If it is a PS/2 keyboard, you could try buying a USB keyboard to replace it. Or just find a friend that has one that you can borrow to see if it works before you spend any money.

Hope this helps.

first question,
is it a ps/2 keyboard?
second question
is it a usb keyboard?
third question
is it a wireless keyboard

If it is a ps/2 is it pluged into the right socket on the computer,.... have you pulled it out and put it back while the computer is switch on, if so you have blown the keyboard port and it will not work period so you will need to get yourself a USB keyboard, and then set it up in the bios before you use it which is going to be an tough job cause you need a keyboard to get round the bios setins

if it's a usb, change the port your keyboard is plugged in.

if it's a ps2 just restart the pc it will detect it.

if it's wireless check the batteries of the keyboard, they may be off.

Hope this helped !!!
