As far as i know ......Discrimination of females is against the law
And too many religions practice it... Why should they get away with it?
Example.........Sharia law........................Muslims want to ban women from a mosque
How can this be tolerated....Any religion that believe women are second class citizens should be shut down banned and the evil doer thrown in jail

If this happened the world would be a better place...We have to start somewhere

As a feminist, I don't think religions can practice discrimination - only people can. Banishing people who practice sexism is not the solution - it won't end sexism, it'll only relocate it elsewhere in the world, forcing the women there to cope with it.

I also don't believe in "evil doers", because it denies our own inherent potential to be "evil". We all can and will at some point do evil. Labelling people as "evil-doers" also isn't a solution either, because it won't let us deal with the greater social problem of sexual discrimination.

I think that we'd have a chance if, rather than banning anything, people within particular religions worked on dealing with sexism. Men would have to confront and understand the privileges they are given because of their religious beliefs, and how they hurt and disadvantage women. Women would have to realize that their roles do not make them "pure", and work actively to support and promote change.

I guess for me, sexism can happen whether religion is there or not. Religious texts were based on old, sexist beliefs...so to me, religion isn't the root of the problem - a sexist society is.

The movement to increase equality between men and women could always use help!

I want to add that I am not condoning sexism in religion, or in any form - but I see this something that has to change within people - and then it'll be reflected in religion, just like how the sexist barriers in religion were created to begin with.

I do know how much horror and pain has been done to women in the name of religion. Sometimes it makes me speechless in rage. But I can't take up the same vicious tactics as those used against the female gender...we have to break outside that way of thinking, that way of acting.

We have to work from the inside out, not vice versa.

My thoughts, anyway.

Best of luck & happy critical thinking!

As far as being banned? No, they should not. This country was founded on the diversity of opinions and the freedom to practice the religion of your choice. BUT... does that mean that these views can spill over into other areas? such as employment or other opportunities? No. The moment that the people who practice these religions start discriminating in the workplace, there ARE laws that will put an end to that...and rightfully so.

Look, let me tell you something there are hyge difference between a rightous person and homosexual, you cant even compare. These what you call them minority, they are criminals. Any one insult the religion or God or prophets is in trouble. Anybody get caught with homosexuality, he is over. Any one dealing with witchiness issues, he is over. Not every one apostate get punished. If he/she chosen to change religion or be an atheist, they are free but going on public and starting insulting God, prophets or Islam is big no. You know why Islam leave these people because they are taken seriously in the first place, we consider them mentally ill thats why Islam leave them alone. Let us talk about the good minoirty that we respect them and respect their rights like Christians. In Egypt they got 15% of seats in the last election although they are only 6%, do you still think that we don't give voice to minorities??

Once you start banning religon, you open the door to a whole lot of things. Like if we ban a religon because we beleive it is wrong, we can start banning political parties because they don't have mainstream views. then we can ban the news media and reporters from doing thier jobs because they don't hold mainstream views. then hey! Whaddaya know? the Constitution is gone and we are under a dictatorship! Funny thing, that Constituion states that there should be as seperation of church and state. The government should not intervene where it is not necessary. You start putting people in jail for a belief and you are no better then those that hold the that point of view. Beliefs don't cause crimes, people do.

Discrimination shouldn't be allowed in any way, however, the US has schools just for African American's that White ppl can't get into.. I consider that prejudice.

And what about the scholarships for being a minority... how right is it that ppl who are women or have darker skin getting scholarships?

Were do we draw the line to being tolerant and prejucidice? I think we need to decide that before we ask anything else. Elton John recently stated that we should ban Religions in the same way.

I don't blame for the comments... however, as the world grows, we will see that our "religious" asperation's will turn into one big mold just as the rest of us have with mixing our races and generations... we are all just a big melting pot, one in the same...

Its part of religious freedom.
They cant limit or force religions to follow specific laws of the land, so long as the religion is not breaking the laws of this land (u.s.a.)

but with a separation of church and state, it would be illegal to attempt to force a religious group to allow women to do something that is against what that specific religion believes in.
Again, so long as whatever that group believes doesnt break the laws of the land in such a way as to be harmful, dangerous for the females.

You dont like the beliefs of certian religious groups..then dont attend or support them.

People have the right to worship as they see fit. If their religion is sexist, and they don't like it change religions. You have the right to worship your belly button hair if you want to, but you do not have the right to force anyone else into participating in your religion.

I don't have much use for religion as a whole, but the day that the government starts telling people they may not practice their religious beliefs as they see fit, is the day the USA died. People came here to be free to worship. Freedom of religion means the state doesn't interfere.

All I can tell u is all the black women and men who have adapted Islam live much better lives. Since it stops people from a lot of vices. I go to the mosque often. In some countries only men atten the mosques not because women are barred from the mosque but since women are the primary care takers of the kids, sometimes its hard for them to go to mosque. Islam was the first religion that emancipated women. The bad treatment of women is cultural and not because of religion. In Saudi Arabia, they used to kill their female newborns and women had no rights but Islam said that any parents who will raise a daughter will go to heaven( so they will not kill female infants). Islam also gave women inheritance rights. Islam made women respectable rather than being sex objects like in western world. Why do black people treat their women so bad, is it because of their religion.
This Imam of my mosque is a black guy and no one looks at his color. What they look at is how intelligent and articulate he is.
You are just brainwashed. Bad treatment of women is mostly because of their culture and not because of religion.
When the American freedom was at stake, America dropped nuclear bomb and killed anywhere from 500,000 to one million innocent people now when Palestinians and other people kill a dozen people including themselves then you say blow me Ahmed. If u can drop nuclear bombs then if they are fighting supprression, you are lot more evil than the Muslims because they only kill a few u kill several hundred thousand in one time only.
DOES YOUR RELIGION teach you hypocrisy.
ITS ONLY LOGICAL SINCE YOU KILL MORE PEOPLE U ARE MORE EVIL> JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE DOES NOT MAKE YOU ANY BETTER.
ROB u just came out of their slavery, what are u talking about.
GO to the majority black areas and you will find out whether its Muslim women who are treated worse or black women.
Hindus do not even kill animals but women were burnt alive with the body of their dead husband, if they became widows. Its the Muslims who stopped the practice of sati when they conquered India.

Despite some people's best efforts, illegalizing religion isn't going to happen. If you use a wide open term like discrimination soon everything is going to get the treatment. Boy Scouts don't allow girls etc.

All religions believe women are second class citizens. Why are you only pointing out one. It's up to the parishioner to make the complaint about discrimination if they wish to do so.
