Yes you can, and it's cheap. Get a KVM (Keyboard, video, mouse) switch. There are several brands available and you can often find them in Wal*Mart, Radio Shack, etc.
I have a D-Link KVM and it works just fine. Bought it for $15 after rebates. Basically, you plug the monitor, keyboard, and mouse into the KVM, and then there are two (or more) sets of cables for the two computers. I can have both machines running at the same time and switch between them by pressing SCRL LCK twice and then either 1 or 2.

You can buy a serial cable switch but you can only run one system or the other! The switch will cost you almost as much as a cheep used monitor tho!
