some women always have irregular periods. For a few months one year, go figure it was a whole summer too. I was having periods that lasted a week of heavy bleeding be off for a week or so then be right back on again with the same heavy bleeding.
I went on birth control for HRT right after I met my now husband, that evened them out pretty good, I would start my period usually 2 days after I stopped taking my pills and stopped usually 1 or 2 days after starting taking my pills again. I stopped taking my pills when my husband and I decided to start a family and I was regular until I got pregnant with my son, after delivery I had a 12 week period and have managed to get back to regular for now but my now regular is different from my then regular. My cycle is a few days longer than it used to be, making it harder to chart for conception. But at least I am still only getting 1 period a month for 5-6 days, but it never has gotten any lighter.
Just make sure that you keep up on your yearly pap tests and talk to your doctor, maybe some kind of birth control would work for you to get regulared up a little more.
Good luck to you.

Well, it depends I guess on the person. I myself have irregular periods, but they are consistently inconsistent. So that's normal for me. Do you normally cycle pretty accurately from month to month? If you do and you're not sexually active (GOOD FOR YOU BY THE WAY!! THAT IS AWE SOME AND THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE GIRLS LIKE US OUT THERE! To many girls just drop trow for anything now-a-days. Its gross...and a little sad actually.) then it may not be a bad idea to visit your doctor. If you're usually a little late or off by a couple of days I'd maybe wait a couple of days and if still no periods then I'd see my doctor. But don't be scared. Doctors are pretty capable these days. So I don't think its anything to worry too much about. But if it doesn't come maybe even call your doctor's office and inquire there...You could always ask some female adults you trust and see what they say...

Certain birth control pills can really help regulate your period and even make them lighter and shorter, yah! Also, it can even take a couple years after you first starting getting your period to be really regular. I don't know how old you are but if you haven't had your period for very long this may be the reason. Either way- birth control pills can help- see your doc :)

Hi there,
Although I'm not a girl but I'm a MEdical Scientist and I hope I'm able to help you in the Medical Point of view. Actually, If your period is late, there are heaps of differentfactor affected it. If your age are less than 21 then a various and unstable period should be OK. But If u are over 21 and had sex life then you should consider different stuff like pregnancy or sex life causes problem. If you are older than 50 then consider menopause. But if you had emotional changes like too exited too happy or sad. This would also affect the period.
Hope this helps you.
Thank You

I have friends with irregular periods and they went to the doctor about it. The doctors will put you on birth control because it regulates your hormones and will regulate your period. So yes, you can fix it. Just don't get to worked up about it.

You can fix it withe the pill, but when you are on the pill you don't get a real period. Your period will get more regular as you get older, just give it time. In the mean time, if you are going to have sex make sure you protect your self.

Why fix it ? It isn't broken. Irregular periods are normal. I have had them my whole life.

So do I but you want to get a check up first in case of a ovarian cyst. I would suggest birth control a low dose so you would not gain 10 pounds.

I think the only way to regulate a period is certain birth control methods, call your local health department or your gynecologist.
