Vanity is repulsive. Outer views misconstrue inner potential. The mind may be beautiful as the shell its carried in is deformed. Handicap? Perfection? Nothing in life is perfect. There is always some type of defect in the world. We are all created in perfection in Gods Eyes. But Lumps of clay on A tremendous potters wheel.

I think ugliness is abig handicap, especially if you use the term broadly to cover physical and mental ugliness.
As far as physical, which your question probably refers, I would say that for the most part people can make themselves "attractive" even if "ugly."
There are a lot of good examples of that, but take being bald and fat for a man. The cure is to get in shape, then shave yoru head, grow a goatee, then take on a rough sexy look instead. You'll never be perfect in some eyes, but at least most will have to admit you're not revolting!

Are most of the people in this Community from the USA, or maybe many of you are just young and don't have parents you can talk to. There again maybe you are just bored and put up these questions for fun.
Ugliness is a state of mind in the community you live in.
Example: Lets say I was an Aussie aboriginal and I ended up on a blind date with a Chinese person. I most likely would find that person very unattractive as opposed to another aboriginal whom I would find beautiful.
Yes it can be overcome. How? Spend more time with yourself, consult yourself on many issues. Now find like minded people whom don't watch a lot of shallow TV shows and read glossy magazines. Take an interest in real people, real issues. Get busy and maintain a pride in your appearance to your own standard. To hell what other peoples standards are.

ugliness is a fiction of the psyche and not the physic. You will wonder when you find that the measures of beauty are so very different with different people that the existence of absolute beauty itself is doubtful. As Shakespear has very succinctly put it in the Midsummer Night's Dream,'The Niger sees in the eyes of his beloved the beaury of Helen'. Leaving aside this as poetic aside there are concret instances that the Nigers really think like this. In a party hosted by an African Tribal chief the Hollywood acress was embarassed by the contant unabsshed attention paid by the chief to her. The bubble was finally broken when he said, "Madam, if only you had been a little darker and fatter you would certinly have been most beautiful.'

Why is ugliness a handicap pal??? What is ugliness? I think it is a perspective. What you might think is attractive to you, might be repelling to me. And as far as the world is concerned, it values only one thing. That one thing is called attitude. Have a great attitude. It always helps. Most people judge you by your attitude and appreciate those who seem lost in their own lives and happiness. Trust me, I genuinely think this world could use some more smiles. Could you contribute by smiling everyday???
