Yes! Children's book about a little boy who found a caveman boy - Stig - living in the local dump (not a rubbish tip but a wooded dell). On my way to junior school I walked past a wooded bit of railway embankment, and used to imagine that Stig lived there......

I remember Stig for the reason it caused a lot of agro in my house when my daughter would not agree with my son a fight would start as he would call her Stig of the dump this was like a red rag to a bull very hard to calm them down.
