Yes, just purchase another 512 ram stick - the main trick to get one as the same as you got now
.
Find out how many Ram slots on your motherboard - some have 2, some have 3 but most these days have 4
.
DO NOT MIX AND MATCH 2 DIFFRENT RAM STICKS,
.
EXAMPLE 2700MHZ AND 3200MHZ, WONT WORK,
.
If you want to go higher in RAM say 2 GB, then take out the 512 stick and add the 1gb stick, this give you room for adding extra ram later.
.
You have not said if it DDR or DDR2 Ram or earlier -
Be Wary -
Find out exactly what your RAM is before you buy

It all depends on what you want to do later. But if you're not planning on getting 2 Gbytes in the near future then it'd be better to get another 512, the same on as the one you have. 2 512, are faster than 1 Gbyte Ram card. If ur planning on having 2 Gbytes well then of course get the 1 Gbyte ram.

It totally depends on the make and model of your PC.
Go visit the website of any major company selling computer memory, and they will have an on-line "calculator" where you enter your make and model, and it will tell you exactly what type of memory to purchase.
Suggestion: Once you know what you need, look for it on E-Bay. Memory is pretty simple, it either boots and works, or it fails when the PC starts, and tells you so (You see less memory counted than you actually have) New memory can cost $100 or more, while the same memory from E-Bay can sell for $30 or so, with a full guarantee.

yes you can get another 512 and add it to but first make sure it is the same memory meaning if you have 3200mhz in now, you will need the same 3200mhz
memory speed don't mix 2700 will not run with 3300
take out your memory stick and take it to a computer shop to make sure you get the right type... be very careful how you handle it also body static will blow it so make sure you earth yourself first, to do that just touch anything metal.... and put the memory stick into a antistatic bag when you take it to the shop
