In "The Sharp Hint of New Tears" (one of Chris' first songs), the first line is, "on the way home, this car hears my confessions/I think tonight I'll take the long way home..." He liked the image it brought to mind: sitting alone and talking to oneself (your car's dashboard, which can't talk back) and hearing your own thoughts aloud, and hoped that his music would be the same thing for fans -- that is, listening to their own thoughts reflected back to them.

Hope this helps!

Perhaps the idea of confessing things in a car, over a dashboard, which could indicate something that one of them has done in the past, or just the overall nature of their songs.

They sing a lot about heavy issues: break-ups, forbidden love, cheating, all of which involve confessions of some sort. The car is a very common place to have conversation, and maybe, while parked and making out, they choose to give a dashboard confessional.

Just a guess.

"Dashboard Confessional was started in 1999, as a side project from Carrabba's venture with Florida rock band Further Seems Forever. The name Dashboard Confessional is derived from one of his songs, The Sharp Hint of New Tears,' which contains the line 'On the way home/This car hears my confessions.'"

It replaced into on "MTV Unplugged 2.0" as a stay version, i believe. "A Mark, a venture, a form, a Scar" replaced into its unique CD music itemizing as a classic, recorded music. That CD replaced into released in 2003 and replaced into Dashboard's 0.33 studio album. ^__^ wish I helped!
