First of all, I've learned to never set expectations on another individual because you are bound to be let down. For me, a few ingredients for a happy marriage would be as follows:
1) Open communication
2) Honesty
3) Respect
4) Great sex
5) Selflessness
6) Willingness to compromise
7) Affection
8) Trust
9) Support and stability
10) Understanding
I would hope that when I marry, I have so close of a relationship with that person that we think, act and move as one, yet maintain our own individuality and still do things independently. I want my husband to know and love everything about me, and vice versa. Even the things that make us get on each others' nerves. We all want someone to be a witness to our lives. I want the feeling of knowing that there is nothing in this world that would keep this person away from me. I don't want to get anything in a marriage other than a lifetime of love and happiness.

I think marriage is a long journey that takes alot of work from both people involved. I don't think you can put expectations on a marriage. Being married, is something you have to take day by day. As with anything else, there are things that are necessary to a healthy marriage, (i.e love, communication, trust, openess, forgiveness, and so much more). Being married can be a beautiful thing, if you have two people who truly are willing to work at it.

First and foremost is trust, honesty, communication, and respect. As long as you get AND give those, you can have virtually anything else you want and need in any marriage.

Love, compassion, trust, commitment. I hope to have someone that I can tell everything to and yet they won't judge me. I hope to have a best friend, a lover, and someone that will have my back no matter what.

You get what you are prepared to put into it. The ideal is to get to the stage where it is about us and it is that us factor that keeps you going back for more. It is us communicating with us.
