Why do we say ATM machines when the "M" stands for machine and we actually say machine twice? Why do we say PIN number when the "N" stands for number and we actually say number twice? Why is the number 8 spelled eight what is the reason for the "g" and "h" and the "ei" for that matter?

I've never used the term 'kid' really... I call them young'ens XD
I don't know where the use of the word 'kid' originated from, though.
