Sometimes the Lunar cycle completes and starts again in the same month, giving two full moons in said month. I am not sure if this happened in November or not, but when this occurs it is called a "Blue Moon".

In general, there are 3 lunar cycles per season. But, since a lunar cycle is only about 29.5 days (it varies a little bit) sometimes you can get 4 full moons in a season and 2 full moons in a month.

A blue moon, as of recently, is defined as the second full moon in a month. However older definitions put it as the third full moon in a season that has 4 full moons.

Rarely (as happened in 1999) there will be 2 blue moons in a year. Since February is only 28 days long, it is possible to have 2 full moons in January, none in February, then 2 again in March.

I think that you misunderstood the news....Mars, a planet about the size of the moon, was closest to the Earth in August...If you look into the sky, preferably if you are in the Northwest or Southeast parts of the USA, you still can see Mars. You will recognize it as the largest (seemingly) star, in other words, it will look like a star, but it dosn't flicker as stars do, and it is orangish in color. It rises in the East and travels Westward. Opposite the sunrise, Mars leaves our view in the sky. It is high in the sky around midnight, and if you have a ten inch telescope you can see it much better. The occurrance of Mars being as close as it was in August, we will have to wait another thirteen years.
