Dear Sally, A question that should be asked more often. Can you have both? Maybe. Takes an unusual person. Sometimes if the partners both have the same career and complement each other it can work. Mostly you have to ask what is most important to the individual doing the asking. It might be said that even by asking you've got the answer.Everything in this world is about relationships, the relationship you have with yourself, with your partner, with your job, your employer, your friends, etc. The most important is the relationship you have with yourself. Do you honor yourself? If you do, then you will honor your commitments. If that means to you putting your career first, perhaps you shouldn't get married. If your relationship with your partner is most important, than focus on that. Is it possible to have a successful relationship and a successful career? Yes. But you have to work at it, be honest with yourself and with your partner and do a lot of negotiating with your partner. Good luck.

I prefer both. Yet I never married before, and would like to entertain the thought of perhaps getting married one day. I'm ready to settle down, dating sucks.
