For web site design is it better to go a college or a tech school?

I went to college and studied graphic design and advertising. I wish some one would have told me to go to a tech school instead. I would have gotten a more in depth education with more hands-on experience. If I could go back, I'd go to Parsons or Art Center. Colleges and universities don't have very strong web or design programs. I went to a private school that cost $32,000 a year. Long Beach State is the only school in California with an awesome art department. However, it's extremely competitive to get into the program. Remember, that only because you get into a school, it does not mean that you have gotten into their art program. You have to apply to get into the program even though you're a student at the college or university.
Make sure you go to the right tech school. Visit the campus, sit-in on a class, find out where their students get internships from, go to their portfolio and gallery shows. Then, make your decision.

Tech School. I went to a university first, graduated, but didn't have enough hard skills to get a decent job. Went to a tech community college, just took the core courses in programming, and got a job right away.It wouldn't hurt to get a four year degree later, since in some cities it's a way to weed through all the applicants. But the tech school will give you the real world skills you need. I'm going for my master's now!

Get a good list of both going and start to look at what you want from the school...if you want money/jobs you may want a tech school because of its speed...if you want to gain a general education along with the desired skills college would be the better investment.

Any more I think Tech School is the way to go. Everyone goes to college but many walk out the door with no real skill.

Since most Tech Schools now are Jr. Colleges go to Tech School get you degree diploma there then if you want to go on to college since a lot of your credits will transfer to college.
