At this point you're just prolonging the inevitable, but there are a few tips that may help:

First, cutting a fresh end is obvious, but if decorated not too practical...Most likely the cutting has dried, but the remainder of the trunk is struggling to survive.

Warm water with an aspirin disolved in it may help to re-open the cutting...

Most tree-stands have a few spikes in the bottom for stability, and "bouncing" the tree while turning a few inches between bounces will open new tissue for water absorption...just loosen the mounting screws "lift, turn, and drop" a few times.

You can also reach into the base with a long, small (1/4inch) drill bit and open 2 intersecting ports through the core, as near the bottom as possible, then apply the warm water.

Many people use some sugar in their water, but this is not required and based mainly on old wives tales...The tree produces the sugars (sap) that it requires as part of the absorption process.

You can do as some say, cut a little more off. Also, I make a spray bottle of water and a few times a day, Mist the tree, it should not hurt the decorations. If, you have some paper things, just do not mist that area. I also use a little liquid Miracle-Grow in the water. If the tree under a heater vent, close the vent best you can or put some cardboard over it to close or deflect the heat from the tree. This about all I know.

You can start by trying warm water, in an attempt to soften the sap. If that doesn't work, and It won't be fun if it's already decorated. But if you cut about an inch off the bottom of the tree. The capillaries would be fresh and open again. Good luck!

If the tree stood for anytime without water, a "plug" forms again at the bottom of the trunk.

You may try recutting the bottom of the trunk , but that is usually impractical with the tree already trimmed.

Otherwise, nothing, get rid of the tree the day after Christmas.

If you are buying it off of a lot, bang the trunk on the ground and watch for falling needles. You can also pull off individual needles and bend them in half, if they spring back into shape, the tree is still pretty fresh. For a lot tree, trim off about 1/2 inch from the bottom before putting it in the stand. If you are cutting it down from a tree farm, get it into the stand as quickly as possible. If the tree farm tree sits too long, trim it also. Above all, keep it well watered.

cut another inch off the bottom, and make sure the water level goes down beyond the tree base, If it does, cut another inch off and start again. You must keep the water level high in the container .

Add a couple of aspirins to the water and they will help keep the end from sealing up.
