OK I HAVE A 1993 CIVIC AND I WANT TO SWAP A 1997 HONDA PRELUDE MOTOR AN h22a4 IS IT POSSIBLE? AND WILL MY CAR PASS EMISSIONS IN INDIANA WITH THE SWAP .... I HAVE HEARD YOU CANT SWAP A 2.2 MOTOR INTO THE PLACE OF A 1.6 MOTOR ?? DONT KNOW IF THAT IS TRUE ALSO WANT TO KNOW IF I COULD SWAP A 1993 HONDA PRELUDE MOTOR IF SO WHICH WOULD BE A BETTER AND OR CHEAPER SWAP?

Swap Info 5th gen 92-95 civic H22a H23a

Trans: All 92- up Prelude 5 speed trans and 92-up Accord trans. Trans with ATTS will require major wiring mods.

Mounts: Hasport mount kit M92- H22-10

ECU: Use ECI that came with the engine with proper mods to wiring. For 96-up engines either back date eletronics and use appropriate OBD1 ECU or use adapter harness and make proper wiring mods.

Electrical Differences: CX and VX need to convert to a 4 wire O2. Non-VTEC models need VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure. Add EGR solenoid and EGR valve except for VX. All models modify stock harness to fit, add air intake by pass wiring, and add knock sensor.

Axles: Use 90- up Accord Intermediate shaft with 90-93 Integra axles. To use Prelude intermediate shaft a short left hand axle with a female inner joint must be used. To construct the proper left-hand axle use 94 GSR left-hand axle inner and outer joints on an 86-89 Integra axle shaft.

Shift Linkage: These trans use cables instead of linkage. The shifter mechanism and cables from these vehicles may be used, 90-up, Accord 5 speed or 92- up Prelude 5 speed cables and linkage. This will require some cutting and drilling.

Upper radiator hose: 90 Integra LS, trim to fit

Lower radiator hose: 94 Del SOL VTEC

Throttle Cable: 98 Prelude

Clutch Hydraulics: Stock

Special Instructions: THe mounting bracket on the right-hand frame will need to be removed or it will interfere with the shifter assembly. A thin fan or pusher fan will have to be used with radiator. Radiator should be upgraded to a Del SOL VTEC radiator for increased cooling.

Special Considerations: Suspension and brake upgrades a good idea. The H22A is 175 to 185lbs heavier than stock D-series drive trains and 85lbs heavier than a B16A drivetrain.

^ Preludes from 97-01 have ATTS not 92 and up.

You can swap an H22 into a civic, it's been done before. My friend has one in his CRX, which leaves him no room to really work on the engine. A 93 Prelude engine would either be an H22/H23/F22, so make sure you know what you're getting.

If you were going to do the swap it would be better off if you got an OBD-I engine. That would be from 92-96. OBD-II would be 97-01, you can do it, but it just involves more wiring.

If you get a JDM engine, in order to pass you would need a USDM intake manifold. The JDM engine doesnt have an EGR, so you would fail emissions.

Preludes made in 92 had no VTEC, only F22 and H23 engines were found in 92 Ludes.

If you want to boost your engine H23 is the way to go, If you want to go N/A, then get an H22. But a cheaper swap would be a B18c in terms of less custom/fabricated parts. They motor would cost more than an H22 I believe.

Of course you can. You may need some aftermarket motor mounts, and you should buy a full motor swap (should at least include engine, trans, ecu and harness, in addition to all parts needed to run the engine). You may also want to swap the axles for better ones.

In my opinion you should do a B18c swap. The H22 is a heavier engine and will be more of a pain to fit into the civic.

that's pretty much what most tuners do with a prelude, swap the h22 into a civic. but like lucky 13 said, a b18c would be better...

If you have the bucks go all out. Get the H22A and turbo it.

If you dont I would get a nice LS swap and build it up from there, get a shot of nitrous and turbo.

the h22 is a better motor of the two will fit just need the parts and know how. and the B18 cost a shitload of money it is a better motor thou

sure I'm putting a H22a in a CRX if it fits in that it will fit a civic you should look up "Hasport "
