Promises sound good. Actions usually show the promises to be lies. At last count, Nancy Pelosi is 3 for 3 in the area of business as usual.. I, frankly, had hoped for better from her. Maybe we will see a new direction, if the Dems remove her as Speaker. Otherwise, as I see it, same old, same old.
On the other hand, her latest action of business as usual, vowing to stop Impeachment proceedings against Bush, may be a Good thing in disguise. If Bush were convicted, it is a given Cheney would be convicted first. That would leave Nancy as President, provided another VP was not first appointed. That would just be another kind of disaster from her track record so far.
Now I have a question. Since we have elected the leaders we have, does that mean we have the government we deserve?

It will be a marked improvement over what the Republicans gave America, that's for certain. Unfortunately, some of the GOP messes, such as Iraq and the deficits, are so enormous that there won't be any easy fixes. There will at least be an honest effort to tackle the problems, though, which is something the conservatives never managed to muster.

We can only hope they will give us an honest accounting of what has happened in the last six years, plus enact legislation for the good of the country. It will be difficult as the Republicans have dumped a colossal mess of an unfinished budget on them, and will no doubt try to stymie any efforts at clarity.
