They are constantly being updated. Some areas are updated more often than others. The satellites are constantly taking pictures.

All the pictures you see are mosaics. If you look close, you will see that in some areas of a particular area, shadows are on one side of a building and right next to it the shadows are facing the opposite side. Depends on the day and time each pic was taken.

I believe they update them once a year. Depending on how significant the changes are though they may update them sooner.

they were just udated a month ago before that the photos were 7 years old
