I am replacing the stock coil with a Jacobs ultra coil and I cannot tell for certain from the four wires how I should hook them up to the new coil which only has a negative and a positive terminal. There are two smaller gauge wires that come from the distributor. One is red, the other is white. The other two wires come from the wiring harness and are larger in gauge. Again one is white and the other is red. I have looked at the wiring schematic in the Chilton manual but it’s very little help. I am also installing a Jacobs FC 1000. Has anyone had experience installing these especially the coil? Thanks for any information.

Coil should be clearly marked with a + or - next to the terminal. One of the two sets of wires is probably for a tachometer the other is ignition. Match the colors. The two smaller Gage wires are for the tach. Red is positive--white is negative. HEI (coil)top should snap together only one way.

There is no coil. It should be an HEI ignition and you new replacement should have instructions on how to replace it. Or look at the Jacobs web site for more info.

the larger of the wires are the B+.
use your test light. Unplug all the wires, and turn the key on. The test light will only light up for the B+.

Good Luck and Merry Christmas
