Well its hard to say which are less known, some are more popular in some areas than others and etc. but I'll list some good death metal bands that took me a while to find.
Black Messiah, Death, Necrophagist, Obsidian, Grom, Nile, Immortal, As Blood Runs Black, Between the Buried and Me, Cryptopsy, Severed Fate
Those are the only ones I would say are less known. Its hard to say though.

Let's see if I can get some that you don't know:
The Chasm
Arghoslent (watch out - their lyrics are extremely racist)
Necrophagist (very technical)
Vital Remains (watch out - lyrics are anti-Christian)
Cynic (they sound like more recent Death)
Novembers Doom (doomy death)
Therion (their old stuff was death metal)
Scythe
Death Metal isn't a major strong point of mine. I usually just listen to the more well known bands like Death and Vader, but I think that list will help. Watch out for those ones that I marked for controversial lyrical content if stuff like that offends you. It's a bit of a turn off for me, but I try to tune out the lyrics and just listen to the music.
