i select[INSTALL NOW] and that part disapears and is replaced by a small box with an[x] inside
Did i do something wrong?

This will automatically check and install the lastest version of both Shockwave and Flash.

Try a manual download of it from the main site: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi
Just download the .exe, close your browsers out and run it and see if it works.
