If this is a starting wage, absolutely not. I make way more than that (almost 40) and all i have is a high school diploma. And I'm only 29, so I haven't been there for years ready to retire either.

It all depends on what type of occupation you are talking about. But, $20,000 a year is not much if you have a college degree that would apply to position you are seeking.

relies upon on the employer and the area. mostly, that is more advantageous probably now that it replaced into only many years in the past. the bigger the employer and the better up the pastime identify the more advantageous probably you'd be vetted in a unmarried way or yet another. I artwork for a employer that checks each and everything -- someone were given burned many moons in the past and it type of feels very probably that hell will freeze over previously we make that mistake back. in my opinion, as a hiring manager, i encounter that checking references is 2d in elementary words to my interview in judging how good of a journey a candidate is to the pastime and our employer. human being managers (like me, as an social gathering) is often sticklers for the guidelines, no matter if the employer isn't. That suggested, that is properly worth stating that "agency criteria" get very squishy & versatile with age and journey. And, mendacity mostly is by no skill a good theory in a job search for.

That's not much money at all. What exactly are your credentials? College degree in what? Starting salary for most college entry level positions should be much higher than 20K.
