I NO LONGER GIVE ANYONE MY WORD - I've long since lost anyone I could trust well enough to deserve giving my word to...
AND ANYONE WHO SAYS THEY HAVE NEVER BROKEN A PROMISE IS SO FULL OF B.S. - No one can keep EVERY promise - it's just not humanly or realistically possible - EVERYONE breaks a promise sooner or later, and the more you say "I NEVER break a promise" the harder you fall when you do...

First, I don't give my word to anyone but my husband; second, if I make a promise to someone I always keep it, even if I regret it later and wish I had never made it because the person is a total jerk. My promise is very important to me and I always keep it, that is why I very seldom promise anything to anyone.

I consider it gold. If you can't keep your word (most all of the time) then what do you have? Your relationship equity is used up. People pass you by and ignore you. For some people it is the free-est thing they give that is worth the least. For me, it means something and I don't give it lightly.

I have only broken one promise in my whole life, and I have regretted breaking that every single day since. I am very, very careful about promising something to someone, I do not do so unless I will pull through.

When I say that 'I give you my word' I mean it perfectly that I have nothing else to give you but a word (or advice). Do not expect anything more from me.
The most valuable for a needy man is the happiness and free from worries which would suffice with a kind word, or patting. 'Praise publicly, critisize personally'. Give plenty of good word that can always encash. (not expectation). We can CHANGE OUR WORDS BUT CANNOT CHANGE HANDS OR LEGS. !

I would never give my word or make a promise if I cannot keep it or follow through.

If I give my word, then I will move heaven and earth to do what I promised to do.

A person is only as good as their word
use a promise sparingly, or only in harsh situations, else people might think of you poorly, resulting in disastrous situations.

i would say it's serious but not that serious. Well, i never really say that. But I would think "promise" is already serious enough.
