Everyone wants to be around attractive people. That is a fact of life.
Given that the basis for being attractive is that you are happy, healthy, and socially "with it", we can see that people who don't meet those standards are already behind in the pecking order.
Dilbert makes fun of execs whose main qualification is the "Executive Hair" -- but sadly, I've seen execs who have great hair, and nothing under it. They look damn good... but...

Attractive vs unattractive: Attractive people do get preferred treatment in many ways. Unattractive people do well also, but they have to work harder to get what they want, and use their brains, rather than beauty.
Beauty fades, intelligence doesn't, when the attractive are older and not so attractive anymore, they are sometimes lost and don't cope well as they have had it easier most of their younger lives...

Really attractive people do better in sales, politics, the corporate world, etc. and average people get stuck in the kitchen, wharehouse or assembly line, and then they try and see they have "equality" in the workplace. To some extent, looking pretty is an "ability" if it helps convince clients they want to do business with, and that is all that matters to the clients. The business people that do best are the ones who can't be charmed with a pretty person in sexy clothes.

Statistically? They have it better in many things, to a degree. But, sometimes attractive men can be bad family men, though getting more money and promotions. Too attractive of woman may be deferred to, but isolated in that deferment. They have it better, but it may be a " better " of statistical significance only.
