The uneducated will assume that "abortion" always implies going to a clinic and having a procedure done to terminate pregnancy. The word abortion comes from the Latin aboriri, meaning to miscarry. A spontaneous abortion is one that occurs naturally, most commonly during the 3rd week. A miscarriage is the spontaneous abortion of a fetus and membranes before the middle of the 2nd trimester. An induced abortion is the one that creates controversy. Before I had any development classes, my mind went to induced abortion when someone mentioned abortion. I would say that is the way the general population thinks. I would use the term miscarriage to not confuse people.

Your friend was wrong to associate the word 'abortion' with the purposeful expulsion of a fetus.
It is only associated with the expulsion. Period. If someone says they had an abortion ... was it spontaneous? Was it natural but not spontaneous (meaning it was an accident but there was a reason it happened)? Was it surgical? Was it medical?
There are so many possibilities. It can mean all of those things. That's why the doctor said 'SPONTANEOUS abortion', to specify which type it was.

The tired argument. The ignorance of people. The hatred from the incompetent pro-lifers. The closing of a door and a new beginning. The best choice I could have made. The thankfulness, joy and relief I felt after my abortion.
I do know that a miscarriage is called a spontaneous abortion though. Generally though, if someone said to me "I had an abortion" I'd think they had an elective or theraputic abortion. Unless you specify otherwise, I'm not thinking miscarriage or spontantous abortion; I'm thinking choice.
I'm sorry that your friend doesn't know better. Hopefully she smartens up. No need to go through life like that. It's sad.

Choice is what comes to my mind. Spontaeous abortion is the actual correct term for a "mis carriage" Miscarriage is a "laymans" term or a nice way of saying the spontaenous termination of a pregnancy and yes most people associate the word abortion with the medical termination of a pregnancy mostly because they are undereducated.

In the context of this question it is a correct medical term. However given the political nature of the term "abortion" it can be an inappropriate term to use outside of the doctors office.

homicide does to my techniques, too. regrettably, these days, for some reason that i won't understand, adoption is a foul word! i think of, besides the shown fact that, the argument is going... "Why stress the girl to might desire to bypass finished term and supply delivery to the little one, whilst that may no longer needed? besides, forcing the girl to bypass via with it may placed the girl in probability, too." of direction, my emotions are that the guy might desire to have achieved a extra suitable interest of combating the being pregnant interior the 1st place. circumstances of rape and incest are actual an somewhat LOW proportion of abortions. maximum abortions are carried out because of fact the guy in basic terms did no longer take the precautions to avert the being pregnant... ergo they're employing it as a skill of delivery administration. Forgive others as I even have forgiven you. I’m no longer right here to win a attractiveness contest, yet to witness to and talk the reality.

yes the clinical term for miscarriage is "spontaneous abortion" and ALWAYS used by doctors and hospitals to describe that occurence. so your friend is mighty uneducated and I would worry about a person like that "turning their nose up at me"

the baby dieing before born is referred to as abortion, a miscarriage is a type of abortion that just means it happened naturally, not bc you went to the doc and said 'i want to abort my baby'

If it's in the context of "spontaneous abortion - miscarriage," then I feel bad for the woman who lost her baby. It was wrong of her to snub you for having a miscarriage, you did not kill your baby. If it's "abortion - purposefully destroying one's baby", then I think "Murder." Shame on you who think giving lethal injections to babies, or vaccuuming out babies' brains is simply a matter of "women's rights to choose." How would you feel if someone walking in the mall with you simply had the legal "right to choose" to pull a gun to shoot you? I HOPE that may make someone think differently about abortion. (By the way, I AM for women's rights and gender/racial equality, but that INCLUDES advocating the rights-to-life of the unborn child) I believe abortion-killing an unborn baby-is acceptable only when carrying the child to term carries a GUARANTEED risk to the life of the mother.

i think generally when people hear the word "abortion" or "abort" they seem to think that it was purposeful, which obviously is not always the case.
