Hi. I'm currently a theatre major in the Midwest. However, I am thinking more and more about becoming a high school teacher of drama, speech, and English. My goal is to live in or near Boston.

I was wondering if it is necessary to have a teaching degree in Masschusetts, or if one can teach with a teaching certificate. In my state, you can teach with just a certificate; however, each state is different.

I do hope to eventually get a Masters in Education or Theater Education. I would like to get some teaching experience before that, though.

I have tried to do some research, but it is so hard to find solid information!

Any other information would be helpful as well. Thank you!

Massachusetts requires a Bachelors Degree in anything. You don;t have to be specific. They make up for this by giving you the MTEL. http://www.doe.mass.edu/mtel/testrequire.html

http://www.mtel.nesinc.com/

and the study materials: http://www.mtel.nesinc.com/PDFs/MTEL_fld45TIBgen.pdf

A Masters degree means more $$$$$$. GO for it. Thoroughly read over the websites and download the test info and you should be fine. Good Luck

Go straight to the sourse. If you are interested in Mass, then check out their Website

http://www.doe.mass.edu/

You can surf their site or even call them.

If you are interested in other states, all you need to do is a search for the state and the department of education. For example: Virginia Department of Education. Look for the link that has the .edu domain.

Good luck
