how far behind will the u.s. be in 20 years? do you think countries like japan germany or china will be a lot better than us at that point?

economically? who knows. lot's of things could happen in 20 years. I'll be 38. HA

china slim chance in 140 years, japan no, germany...definately not.
china is still communist VERY slow to change and VERY BIG and VERY DENSE. right now they are having a sexual revolution and an AIDS epidemic.
japan is too small and requires importing steel and so forth, thier culture is wildly different to compare to the US in general. Whereas the US could cut off ties to the rest of the world and live off farm land, overpopulated places cannot and subject themselves to servicing others.
germany has major issues with thier labor laws. thier industry is stagnant as far as sinking teeth into the rest of the world is concerned you are looking at 3 entirely different places with different MO
so for behind or ahead in what?
education? healthcare? jobs? real estate? for whom? the rich? the poor?

Better than the U.S. in what way?

As long as our military technology is better who cares,... we can always buy the latest high tech dvd player or whatever... thats what trade and commerce is all about
