Well, we won't get into 'the most' or 'real'ist of anything, but someone of your first namesake hits right up there! Todd Rundgren. The Runt.

You must listen to anyone's lyrics to understand anyone's answers, as well as to choose your own. People that talk about real life issues - from spiritual quests to social injustices to ...??? What may be 'profound' to one may be completely trivial to another. Many times Todd has got me through some very tough personal adventures in my life and at other times Frank Marino or Stephen Stills hit the point. George Clinton and Curtis Mayfield have opened my eyes to things I was never even aware of. Ben Harper and Eminem have pointed me to searching out news I never would have before. Elvin Bishop, Kinky Friedman and Kris Kristofferson have all helped and shown paths in my life, depending on where I was or what I was going through at the time.
Checkout some of the lyric sites on the net. leo'slyrics.com, lyriclibrary.com, songtext.com, lyrichead.com, etc...
Your question, in reality, can only be answered by yourself! As, what has 'really' made a 'profound' impact on your life.
Slante!

U2's "I still havent found what i'm looking for"..I call it my anthem.
If you listen to the words, his done so much and seen so much, and yet he still hasnt found what his looking for.
And for years that was me (guess the song hit home).Seen so much and done so much, been to places some people can only dream of,and yet i was missing something.
But then again i think U2's "Pride in the name of love" is a very powerful song. That has great meaning.

Eric Clapton = Heaven, he wrote the song to give tribute to his sons life that tragically was cut short after falling to his death from a Hotel window. It speaks of his love for his child and where he will eventully see him again.
