I am a breeder of bettas for about 4 years now and I am looking for something else unique to breed, although I still will breed bettas I love them. I need an animal that can be kept in an aqarium so no rabbits or dogs or anything like that. No birds either. I was thinking of poison dart frogs and even though they are not posinous in captivity anything with the word poision in its name I dont want to deal with. Also I would prefer not having an animal that has to be fed crickets or meal worms or nasty bugs, I can tolerate most worms and wingless fruit flys etc. etc. Let me know if you have an idea that goes with all my criteria lol.

I wouldn't suggest trying to breed dart frogs- they are extremely delicate creatures that require insanely precise conditions to breed in. I kept dart frogs for years, and while most of them thrived, I did lose a few, and I never even attempted to breed them.

I really think you're going about this idea the wrong way- why would you jump right into breeding an animal you've never even kept? Wouldn't it be more intelligent (and better for the animal) if you found a creature you really liked working with, kept several specimens for several years, learned what to breed for and what traits to breed against, learned their husbandry inside and out, and THEN made the decision to breed them? Animals are living things, just because many WILL reproduce readily if you put them together doesn't mean you should start pairing creatures up like Noah's Ark and popping babies out left and right. I suggest you do some research and find an animal you want to KEEP, and worry about the breeding part much much later.

Mud skippers. Gobies. Dwarf crayfish. Blue crayfish. Tiger algae shrimp. Crystal Red shrimp. Freshwater flouders (ok, saw some in the store today and thought they were nifty, have no idea about breeding them or how big they get). Green tree frogs. Poison darts would be great but you will have to offer them live bugs. Hissing roaches. Scorpions. Tarantulas. Miniature horses. White tigers. Snow leopards.

Well, as I'm sure you know, mollies, guppies and other livebearing fish are easy to breed. They're not at all unique though, unless you were to focus on a specific colouration/body type?

I breed mice, and keep them in tanks, but they're quite different from fish.

There are plenty of cool fish out there, but egg layers/scatterers are usually difficult to breed.

Sorry I can't think of anything!

Since you like breeding fish. I would think you would like to stay in the fish family. The one fish that would be unique to breed would be Discus. I had them as pets for awhile until we moved and they are really neat. They are a very calm and quiet fish. Just an idea.
