So I was flying over the Bahamas Islands (in an aircraft) yesterday...and I was in amazement....

The wonderful Blue serene beaches, the lush green vegetation...and I was thinking to myself....my great God created this all, "How wonderous!" I exclaimed....

And then .....the person in front of me made the sign of the cross!!!

I've never learnt to do it right....I Mean, where do I start, top to bottom...left to right...etc. .etc...(DOES IT EVEN MATTER TO GOD?)

but if I never learn..would I be damned...FOREVER?

My father-in-law says:

"Spectacles, testicles, wristwatch, and wallet".

I don't know what you're supposed to do if you don't have any testicles. Probably go straight to hell.

No it really does not matter if you learn to do it right, you will not be damned forever for a ritual like that. If you really want to know you are supposed to make a cross with you thumb and your index finger, crossing them together. Then the phrase is, "In the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, Amen." the sequence goes first forehead, then the middle of the chest, then the left shoulder, then the right shoulder.

As a Catholic, we were taught to use our right hand, start at our forehead, to our heart, left shoulder to right shoulder.

I don't suppose God would mind if you messed up making the sign of the cross - it is the thought that counts!

And I don't think that you would be damned forever for something like that.

ok. first of all, doing the cross symbol is not anywhere in the bible, it is something entirely made up by man. God doesn't want our faith to be based upon rote ceremonies and traditions! just continue enjoying God's world, and if you feel like praying, go ahead and do it, and don't worry about the cross symbol.

Top to bottom then left to right. That is the way I was taught in catechism class.

top bottom left right is the right way ... but I don't think it matters I believe you can have a "moment" in silence anytime ... maybe because I spent 9 years being tortured in a catholic school my view is what it is

it is not the ritual that matters, it is the feeling of gratefulness that compells you to want to perform the ritual. you certainly would never be damned for that.
