I live in central Texas and we dont have to worry about automotive rust. But I am thinking of moving up north, maybe Colorado, where it would be a concern. I know you can rust proof your car, but how much does it typically cost? Is it easy to find a place that will do it for me?

There is no 100% way to rust proof your car. At most you will slow it down or have very little than cannot be seen. There are many companies out there that does rust proofing. For example under carriage would need multi-layer treatments that will prevent it to occur to a minimum which will cost from a few hundred dollars to more than a thousand. For the body of the car my only advice would be make sure the paint does not chip or do not have nicks from rocks and flying debris while driving along the highway. And whenever possible park your car in the garage and wash the car after it has been in heavy snow not right away of course otherwise your doors and windows would be jammed shut and then you would need to fix the rubber insulation, which will cost money as well..

About the rust just apply some touch up paint or A primer coat to cover the rust. Found at your local Hardware Store. As for keeping it in top notch condition You might want to use a high speed buffer but i wouldn't recommend you to do it. Or you run the risk of burning the paint if you don't apply enough polish. This is much easier Clay it every few months, then wax it. Wax it every two months as needed. That can be found at your local Service Department or Auto Store. The end result will be a smooth/shiny finish to the paint job. Just make sure use cotton towels or microfiber towels. good luck

Best way to keep any vehicle rust-free is to wash it at least
twice a month and keep it waxed every six months and if
possible keep it in a "garage". A garage is really the key factor
to keep a car looking new for the longest amount of time.

Try washing the salt off your car as much as possible. This will help a lot. Rustproofing works, and most guarantee it as long as you get it reapplied every year. Places that do this are everywhere. Look up Ziebart. I believe the price is about $100

Back home in Vermont we use hot oil treatment for the underside of vehicles. It's messy if you have to get underneath to do something, but it's the best way to keep it rust free.It has to be applied every year.

An alternative would be to wash(Read=scrub the crap out of) the vehicle frequently, top and bottom, maybe twice a week.

Pressure washer is a good investment too.

If it's feasible, two cars is the best way to go.A crappy junk car for winter, and your nice car for no salt/snow.

Take care of the car, and don't park it outside..I park mine in the rain..and no rust...also helps if u don't live near the coast or where salt is used to plow the roads..I live in Florida..little or no snow..

well the best and only way is to probably put many coats of paint on it and primer keep your car clean from bug guts and salt because they are acidic and will eat through the paint and when it rains your car will rust

Don't know if the company is down in Colorado but the one that is used alot in Canada is "Rustcheck". I have seen 20 year old vehicles that are pristine up here.
