Internet is not a good place to advertise, unless your a big fish. It is useful for new customers, to gain information on your company at their convenience. THey have a question and your not available, they just hit their computer. Its the new business card and catalogue. If you really want to pump up your visits, I guess you could pay a search engine like google to have your name show up on top or bottom of its site everytime some one is searching for carribean and shipping. You could hire someone to artificial pump up the counter on search engines for anyone looking for shipping and carribean. That I think maybe illegal, but not very enforceable.

Boosting up your site in terms of high traffic must be supplemented with a little web marketing work. It is best that if you would want your site to get noticed, you have to eye for your site's traffic. Try submitting urls to different search engines. You could also do a little writing work and submit your articles on different sites, with of course a link back to your site. These articles should be about your site, which contains pieces of useful information to help readers. This will also build credibility on your part. It is also best if you could gain access to the site's stats for you to see the traffic development of your site.

There are some ways to get traffic to your site:
1. Post in forums. If your site is about caribbean, search for "caribbean forums" in Google, get a forum account and post actively there. Include your signature with a link to your site.
2. Submit your site to Google Sitemap. This way, Google will crawl your site faster increasing your chances of appearing on Google Search Engines.
3. Join TrafficSwarm to get some traffic by reading other people's website first. In return, they will go to your site. Check out http://www.wanginternet.com/traffic
4. Join PPC programs like Google Adwords, MIVA or Yahoo Publisher Network. I personally go with GoClick.com since I can advertise my site for only $0.01 per click and the minimum to join is only $10 which adds to your available credits to use. Check out http://www.wanginternet.com/ppctraffic

You are probably best off with adwords ppc ads-
Sign up for an adwords account here: http://www.galacon.com/adwords.html
and try a few low-budget campaigns and see what happens. I think you are going to have a hard time competing with fedex, though...
Another thing you should try is writing some articles about the special needs or problems with shipping to the caribbean. Post the at goarticles.com, articlealley.com, etc. and drive some traffic to your site. Make sure you write keyword rich articles with good value or no one will read them, though!
Hope that helps!

Have your crew identify the product/companies being off-loaded at the various ports. Send a brochure and your fine URL to those companies.
Ask your current companies for references to mail out. Provide your current customers a one time $ or % discount for every new order they bring from a new customer.

Try free advertising at first, free classifieds can be great if you place mass ads out at once.Type in "free classifieds list" and you will find lists of classifieds from a-z of free classifieds to post on- to start you off. Then eventually you can upgrade to ppc(paid advertising) when you get a feel for it.
