my fiance was married 21 years b4 i met him, hes been divorced 4 years, he has to pay her 1,100. per month, he makes good money , but has no money, he gives it all 2 her-alimony! They have no kids 2gether. She just inherated a large amount from a family member, she got the house which she sold for 650,000, got a 35,000. vehicle., receintly retired, and opened a business (which is in her sons name) lives in a rich part of California. She is financially secure. Does anyone know the laws in California? Do we have a chance to lower or stop the alimony if we take the money grubber back to court? She also gets 1/2 of his retirement when he retires in 12 years! or untill she remarries!I know we could ask a lawyer, but my guy thinks we'd be waisting our time. I say pay the consultation, or ask my yahoo family for advice. can anyone give me an answer.? (she's the one that said she wanted a divorce, she fell outta love)

Women pay alimony as well these days and it is a law made to protect a spouse who stayed at home and gave up their possibilities of making an income to take care of the family. It is made to protect them from being left with nothing.

Alimony is to be paid until she remarries. You could take her back to court and prove that she is financially stable. You most likely will get the alimony reduced. You would be more successful by retaining an attorney to represent you. Good luck.

It depends on the divorce decree. Pull it out and read it, it should tell you.

In Michigan where there is alledgedly no alimony (just spousal support) if you are married 21 years you get to pay for about 10 or more.

It sounds like this woman will be in your life for many years to come, get used to it.

It all depends on his court order. Usually alimony is for a set period of time. What's his order say?
