How do they know?

Pregnant women actually emit a pheromone that animals detect with their sensitive noses. The animal will know that you're pregnant and will act accordingly. Not to mention lap dogs get irritated when the belly starts to push them off the lap.

Well I am not sure about all animals, but I have noticed a difference in the way dogs act. It seems they are a little more protective then they usually are when it comes to pregnant women.

It is interesting isn't it? I took a pregnancy test the day after I was late and it was negative. My male dog, who is 6 but we only had for like 5 months at the time, was following me around sooo closely. At one point I almost fell down the stairs because I stopped and he was right at my legs. I took another test 2 weeks after I took the first one because I knew he knew something was up with me. Of course, it was positive. I think they smell or sense the hormone change in a pregnant woman.

I even have 3 cats who consistently use to sleep on their cat domicile element. Now i'm 10 weeks pregnant and for the final 2 weeks they have all slept in mattress with me. Hubby is getting a huge aggravated yet i like it. Even my cat who isn't lots of a cuddle-malicious program has cuddled dazzling up next to my abdomen the previous couple of nights.

Sounds funny but mysister in laws parents have horses & my first sign I was pregnant with our 3rd (1 week post conception) was the female would not allow me up on her to ride she kept standing & when I went by the male (more aggressive) she would stand between us. She acted the same with my other pregnancies so I was pretty sure I was.

You know what, I was wondering the same thing. My mom has a shih tzu dog and whenever it comes around me it's really slow in movement and always sniffs my tummy. Im gonna go look that up.

>ADDED> Wow, I couldn't find an answer anywhere else.. but I guess this solves it for me. Neat. Good question!

They know because they can hear the baby, and can smell the pheromones that pregnancy causes the woman to give off.

Animals can sense things that we cannot. Often they will be very attentive and protective ot the person. Don't you just love em.

It's the smell that the animals sense.

(It's pretty revolting BTW, the smell, I mean)
